ABOUT / THE PERSON
Curiosity is a
lifelong project.
I'm Jeff Vandervelde. Online, I build under the name Socraticblock. I enjoy finding out how things work, exploring unfamiliar technologies and finding more thoughtful ways to solve everyday problems.
AN ENGINEERING INSTINCT
I tend to notice
unnecessary friction.
Sometimes that means a repetitive workflow at work. Sometimes it means a small frustration in daily life. My first instinct is to ask: why is this difficult, and could the experience be simpler?
My favorite projects involve both the structure beneath the interface and the person using it. I want the result to be understandable, reliable and pleasant to work with.
Philosophy, without the costume.
I'm drawn to Socrates, Plato, Aristotle and Stoic thinking. Not because I want to turn engineering into an ancient philosophy lesson, but because asking better questions, examining assumptions and remaining open to learning matter to me.
